EDIT: I have looked over the numbers we currently have signed up and it appears this CAN actually happen. I am excited to see the numbers we have had sign up in less than a week's time. With that said, there is no need to stop sharing the information. The more, the merrier, comes to mind. Since this appears to be a legit project now, I will begin setting things up for the virtual portion so that I can have the submission system (probably through our class website) set up and ready to roll by the end of July.
As I sat and perused music for the 2024-2025 choir season, I realized that the 40th Anniversary for Kocurek is approaching. The 2025-2026 school year will mark the 40th year that Kocurek has been open for students. What shocked me even more was the realization that I will be serving my 19th year at Kocurek when this milestone occurs...almost half of those years have been in my current position. :)
As I contemplated this, I realized I wanted to create something special, something that would span the entire school year. But what? Special concert song selections? That seemed simple enough. Then it dawned on me. Let's devise a two-part plan: one for the beginning of the school year and one for the end. I know, it might seem premature to be thinking about this already, but planning ahead will be crucial to pulling this off.
PART ONE: The School Song
Part one involves a virtual rendition of our school song. Participants will receive detailed instructions upon sign-up, but the concept involves creating a video performance of our school song from any location. While this project demands considerable time for coordination, individual time commitment is relatively minimal. The goal is to have the video ready for viewing at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year.
PART TWO: A Concert Performance
Part two entails an in-person performance, scheduled for May 2026. This performance will feature a collaborative effort between former choir members and current elementary choir members, showcasing a selected song. Learning the song and music will be straightforward, with materials distributed well in advance. Although a rehearsal prior to the concert is yet to be confirmed, efforts will be made to accommodate those who can attend. Even if you cannot attend a rehearsal, should one be planned, you can still participate. Attendance at the concert itself is, understandably, the most important part.
Early planning is essential to ensure adequate distribution of information. Given the challenge of obtaining contact details spanning nearly two decades, assistance in reaching out to former choir members would be greatly appreciated.
Share this information out to everyone. The more the merrier. Below is a link to sign up so that I can gauge the interest and determine if we have the numbers to pull off what I have envisioned.
If you have any questions about this project please feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to wherever this may go and am hopeful that we can all reunite for a special performance.
